Mari and Dom’s Pasadena City Hall elopement was intimate in the sweetest way. It was just the two of them, their officiant, and me there to document it all. There wasn’t a big crowd or packed timeline, just a private and meaningful ceremony in one of the most beautiful city hall locations in Southern California. Their elopement had that moody, whimsical feel that makes city hall weddings so special.
If you’re considering a Pasadena City Hall elopement yourself, it’s important to know that the City of Pasadena doesn’t perform civil ceremonies. Mari and Dom hired Will Young through 1 Hour Marriage as their officiant, which made their ceremony easy and official. So if you love the look of Pasadena City Hall but still want a private elopement ceremony there, hiring your own officiant is the way to make it happen.

Mari and Dom started their Pasadena City Hall elopement with a private ceremony right in front of the fountain. It was the perfect spot with the water, courtyard, and historic architecture all creating the dreamiest backdrop. Everything felt so special to witness.
After their ceremony, we took portraits all around Pasadena City Hall. This location is seriously so good for elopement photos because there’s beauty in every direction. Between the arched walkways, tiled details, garden spaces, staircases, and romantic courtyard, the whole building has this vintage, cinematic feel that made Mari and Dom’s portraits feel even more intentional.
I loved how much variety we were able to get without ever leaving the property. One minute we were using the fountain and courtyard, and the next we were tucked into the gardens or walking through the architecture. Pasadena City Hall is such a beautiful choice for couples who want an elopement location that feels private, romantic, and full of beauty around every corner.
Planning note: If you’re considering your own Pasadena City Hall elopement, it’s worth checking the City of Pasadena’s special events page. Weddings and private events in the Pasadena City Hall courtyard and/or rotunda require a permit, so this is a great place to start if you’re hoping to have your ceremony on-site!

Throughout their elopement, I’d pull out my film camera for a few extra shots of them. Pasadena City Hall photographs so beautifully on film, especially with the vintage architecture and soft courtyard light. It added the perfect nostalgic feel to Mari and Dom’s already dreamy day!

As you can see by now, Pasadena City Hall is such a beautiful place for couples who want something intimate and full of beauty. It has stunning architecture, a beautiful courtyard, gardens, and quiet little corners for portraits, and it gives you so much variety without needing an overly complicated plan.
